  • Nelly Furtado – Loose
    Loose is the third album by Canadian singer-songwriter Nelly Furtado, released by Geffen Records June 20, 2006 in North America (see 2006 in music). Timbaland and his then-protégé Danja produced the bulk of the album, which incorporates influences of dance, R&B and hip hop. The album explores the theme of female sexuality and has been described as introspective or even sad in parts. Its influence comes from some of the themes expressed in the material of artists such as Janet Jackson.
    The album received criticism because of the sexual image Furtado adopted for the recording, with some feeling it was a ploy to sell more records. Further controversy rose over accusations of plagiarism on Timbalands part when recordings were leaked onto Youtube. The record was seen generally as critically and commercially successful. It reached high positions on charts across the world, and according to a November 2007 press release, it had sold more than seven million copies worldwide.
    The album was heavily promoted, released in several editions and was supported by the Get Loose Tour, which is the subject of the concert DVD Loose: The Concert. Eight singles were released from the album, including the U.S. number-one singles “Promiscuous” and “Say It Right”, which received Grammy Award nominations for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, respectively. Other stand out singles include the UK number-one single “Maneater” and the successful song “All Good Things (Come to an End)”.

  • Charles Mingus - Mingus Plays Piano – 1963
    The performances are largely pretty laid back, Mingus is in a pretty meditative and bluesy mood-- he tackles a few standards, some of his own compositions, and improvisations on brief themes within his music. The best of the material is delicate and lovely ("Myself When I Am Real"), energetic but not aggressive ("Body and Soul") or just stunning ("Orange Was the Color Of Her Dress, Then Silk Blues"). And while it lacks much of the bite, sarcasm, and aggressivenes of some of Mingus' better work, it is in its own way, a stunning album. Highly recommended.

  • Roy Buchanan - Messiah On Guitar (Live-Rare!) – 2007
    2007 release from Music Avenue label is all the info I have on this recording, there's no info in the booklet as to where/when this live set was recorded or who's playing with Roy either. I stumbled across this disc at a record fayre (remember them?) and while I have no knowledge of the label or the recording, though from the cover art and sound it has to bea mid-late '80s recording from the Alligator years. What I can say is this is THE single best recording I've ever heard from Buch. It SMOKES! It rips, it shreds, it sings, it blows any other recording by almost anyone clean out of the water!!! If you're a Buch fan or a fan of incendiary blues/rock from the likes of Jeff Beck, Rory Gallagher, Stevie Ray or Hendrix then you have to hear this to believe that it leaves them all for dead. I'll say no more. Just enjoy.

I stumbled em todo este disco em um registro fayre (lembre-los?) E ao mesmo tempo que não tenho qualquer conhecimento do rótulo ou da gravação, embora a cobertura de arte e de som que tem a BEA média-final de gravação a partir do Alligator anos 80 anos. O que posso dizer se esta é a única gravação melhores que eu já ouvi de Buch. Ela fuma! Ele rasga, ele desfiadas, ela canta, ela explode qualquer outra gravação por quase ninguém fora da água limpa! Se você é um fã ou uma fã Buch incendiárias de blues / rock a partir da gosta de Jeff Beck, Rory Gallagher, Stevie Ray Hendrix ou então você tem que ouvir para acreditar que este deixa-las para todos os mortos. Eu vou dizer não mais. Basta desfrutar.

Nods are also given to his intermittent film work, via the cool smile sophistication of his Death Wish title cut and his Academy Award-winning interpretation of Monk's "'Round Midnight." The packaging is nearly as innovative as Hancock's music: a transparent plastic cube with the discs and booklet (featuring insightful notes penned by Hancock himself) suspended within.

    The Gibson Brothers - Iron And Diamonds (2008)
    We all know people who, as Robbie Fulks sings, like “every kind of music but country”. My suggestion when encountering this kind of person is to sit him or her down and play Iron & Diamonds. If, by the end of the album, said person is not totally in love with the Gibson Brothers, chances are this horrid taste extends to other elements of his life as well, so you really shouldn’t be associating with that kind of riff-raff anyway, because this record is incredible.

    When one thinks of classic R&B singers with a country flair, chances are it's Ray Charles first, followed perhaps by Joe Tex and Solomon Burke. Jason Allen makes the case for adding Stevie Wonder into the mix with a terrific cover of "I Just Called to Say I Love You." Slowed to a honky-tonk shuffle, it's a novel take on a pop standard. But that doesn't mean The Twighlight Zone is a novelty album by any means.
